SPAN 304: Introduction to Hispanic Literature
Dr. Ovidio Casado-Fuente
Conducted in Spanish, the course introduces the principles of literary analysis, based on reading and discussion of Hispanic literary texts. Includes fiction, drama, essay, and poetry from Spain and Spanish America
During my first semester as a Spanish Major, I took a class with Dr. Ovidio Casado-Fuente. I had taken high school Spanish, but this was first college level Spanish course. This was an introduction to the most important Spanish literature. In this class, we worked in groups all year long. My group included Ms. Collin, Ms. Lara, Ms. Gonzales, and myself. Throughout the year these ladies and myself worked on packets that were due at the end of the week. We were given a handbook that Dr. Casado-Fuente put together. This booklet included literature from the early Iberian peninsula. In this class, was when I first heard about Las Jarchas and the invasion by the Arabs. I had never heard of anything about this time in history. Dr. Casado-Fuente made me want to learn more. We then proceeded to talk about El Conde Lucanor, Lazarillo de Tormes, El Cantar del Mio Cid, among others.
