Hispanic Children's Literature was the first class I had taken with Dr. Zielina. At first she was a bit intimidating. The context of her class was so fascinating that I didn't mind her strict policies. She pushed me to try my very best in each assignment. I wanted to be up to her expectations, I believe I was. She showed us many books for children.Dr. Zielina made sure we need the difference between myths, tales, and fantasy literature. We analyzed each of them to explore the message children would receive when reading these books. Dr. Zielina also made us create activities for the children. She would challenge us to take a book and use it as a math lesson, or a science experiment. As someone who wants to work in a bilingual elementary school, I found this course extremely helpful. I learned a lot from Dr. Zielina and was introduced to great literature for kids. Some of the books we explored were Cuentos Ecologicos, Anacaona, El Son de Africa, Los Casadores Invisibles, among others.
